- General description: Pyridine is a heterocyclic compound[1] and a toxic chemical, which is widely used as a solvent and intermediate in the production of dyes, rubber products, paints, textile water repellents, agricultural chemicals, chemical laboratories, manufacturing of piperidine, etc. It plays an important role in the sensory properties of cigarette smoke and exists as a volatile component in certain food products.[2]
- Application: Pyridine may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in cigarette smoke using reversed-phase liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (RP-HPLC–ESI-MS/MS).[2]
