Description

  • General description: Silica gel is a rigid 3D network of colloidal silica.[1] It is exclusively used as a support material for the active titanium (III) centers in Ziegler-Natta catalysts. Silica gel allows a controlled fragmentation leading to form uniform polymer particles with narrow particle size distribution and high bulk density.[2] Silica gel is classified as below:a. Aquagel - pores are filled with waterb. Xerogel - by the process of evaporation, aqueous phase in the pores are removedc. Aerogel - solvent removed by supercritical extraction[1]
  • Application: Modulating the properties and structure of lignins produced by alkaline delignification of sugarcane bagasse pretreated with two different mineral acids at pilot-scale: Demonstrates the use of high-purity sulfuric acid in the pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse, crucial for enhancing the quality of lignin extracted for further biochemical applications, pivotal for research in material science and environmental sustainability (Nunes da Silva et al., 2024).
