Description

  • General description: Butyl acetate can find wide applications in painting and coating industries.[1] It can also serve as a substitute to toxic solvents used in the manufacture of acrylic polymers, enamels, vinyl resins, nitrocellulose and lacquers.[1] It is generally prepared by the esterification of butanol with acetic acid in the presence of sulfuric acid.[1] It can also be obtained via transesterification reaction of methyl acetate with butanol.[1]
  • Application: Butyl acetate may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in paint solvents by spectrophotometry,[2] and in amorolfine liniment[3] and carbamate pesticides[4] by chromatography techniques.
