Description

  • General description: Iron(III) chloride is a mild oxidizing agent and participates in various carbon-carbon-bond forming reactions.[1] On crystallization with water, it forms hydrates. It can be prepared by reacting chlorine with the scrap iron at approximately 650°C.[2]
  • Application: Iron(III) chloride (Ferric Chloride, FeCl3) has been used as a surface modulator for the characterization of wines by fingerprinting technology.[3] It has been used for the quantitative estimation of sulfide in various biological samples.[4]
