- Application: Calcium carbonate has been utilized by plants and animal for the formation of their skeletons and shells.[1] It also facilitates the calcium carbonate crystal growth on a chitosan substrate.[2]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Calcium carbonate is a naturally occurring compound that reduces T4 absorption and enhancess serum thyrotropin levels.[3] It also precludes osteoporosis induced by thyrotropin-suppressive doses of levothyroxine in postmenopausal women.[4] Additionally, it reduces diarrhea in individuals with protease inhibitor-induced HIV-infection.[5]
