Description

  • General description: The amino acid requirements for in vitro cultivation of Novikoff hepatoma cells were reported by McCoy and colleagues. These experiments were carried out using Basal Medium 5A, which was later modified to create McCoy′s 5A medium.
  • Application: McCoy′s 5A Medium has been used:to culture HCT-116?cells[1]to culture clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) cells Caki-1[2]to maintain and culture human bone osteosarcoma Saos-2 cell line for in vitro cell studies[3]
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: McCoy′s 5A Medium has been originally developed to support liver tumor cells by modification of the amino acids found in BME. This formulation has also been used to support the growth of primary cultures of bone marrow, skin, gingiva, kidney, omentum, adrenals, lung, spleen, rat embryos, and other cell types.
