Description

  • Application: A Color Indicator Based on 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium Bromide (MTT) and a Biodegradable Poly(ester amide) for Detecting Bacterial Contamination.: This study developed a biodegradable poly(ester amide) containing L-Alanine used with MTT for the detection of bacterial contamination, highlighting its potential in health-related applications (Franco et al., 2024).Randomized Trial to Assess the Safety and Tolerability of Daily Intake of an Allulose Amino Acid-Based Hydration Beverage in Men and Women.: Investigates the impact of a daily hydration beverage supplemented with L-Alanine among other amino acids on hydration and nutrient uptake in humans, emphasizing its safety and efficacy (Bloomer et al., 2024).Comparison of methods for the NMR measurement of motionally averaged dipolar couplings.: This study utilizes L-Alanine samples to compare NMR methods for measuring dipolar couplings, contributing to the improvement of NMR spectroscopy techniques (Southern et al., 2024).
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Alanine is a nonessential amino acid that plays a key role in the glucose-alanine cycle between muscle tissue and the liver. In amino acid-degrading tissues such as muscle, amino groups are pooled as glutamate by transamination reactions. The amino group of glutamate is transferred to pyruvate via alanine aminotransferase, forming alanine and α-ketoglutarate. The alanine is passed into the blood and transported to the liver. This reaction is reversed in the liver where pyruvate can be used in gluconeogenesis to form glucose, which may return to other tissues through the circulatory system. Increased alanine levels correlate with higher blood pressure, energy intake, cholesterol levels, and body mass index.
  • Other Notes: Postulated salting-in effect on proteins[1]; Growth requirement of a variety of microorganisms[2].
