Description

  • General description: Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) belongs to the family of glycoprotein hormones. It is synthesized in the gonadotrophs present in the pituitary gland.[1] FSH contains non-covalently associated α- and β-subunits and is a disulfide-rich heterodimer.[2]Research area: Cell Signaling
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) participates in the regulation of reproduction in mammals.[2] It exerts its effects through a G-protein-coupled receptor known as follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR)[2] that is located on the granulosa cells of the ovaries and Sertoli cells of the testes.[1] FSH plays a role in the maturation of ovarian follicles in females and supports spermatogenesis by activating Sertoli cell proliferation in males.[2] The interaction of FSH with its receptor FSH-R leads to the activation of G-protein coupled receptors/cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)/protein kinase A pathways to transmit intracellular signals.[3]
  • Warning: Toxicity: Carcinogenic / Teratogenic (D)
  • Preparation Note: Prepared from tissue of individuals that have been shown by certified tests to be negative for HBsAg and for antibodies to HIV and HCV.
  • Reconstitution: Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 6 months at -20°C.
