- BGJb medium was developed for the growth of fetal rat long bones in a chemically defined medium
- BGJb is a medium modified by Sylvia Fitton-Jackson from the original BGJ medium developed by Biggers, Gwatkin, and Judah
- BGJb medium creates favorable conditions for growth and calcification of fetal bones
- This BGJb medium is manufactured as follows: With: L-glutamine, Phenol Red Without: HEPES The complete formulation is available
- Gibco™ BGJb medium contains higher levels of amino acids and glucose, and an increased buffering capacity to improve the conditions for growth and calcification of fetal bone
- Using BGJb medium BGJb contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors
- Therefore, BGJb requires supplementation, commonly with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS)
- BGJb uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (3.5 g/L) and therefore requires a 5-10% CO 2 environment to maintain physiological pH
