Description

  • General description: Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate is a Lewis acid catalyst commonly used to promote acid-catalyzed organic transformations. It can also act as an effective redox catalyst in combination with other mixed oxidizing agents.
  • Application: Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate can be used as a catalyst:       In acetylation of alcohols and phenols in the presence of acetic anhydride.       To synthesize various ynamides via intramolecular coupling of amides with alkynyl bromides.It can also be used as a template in the synthesis of copper(II) ion-imprinted polymers using vinylpyridine and methacrylic acid as functional monomers. This polymer is used to quantify Cu2+ ion by using flame atomic absorption spectroscopy.
  • Features and Benefits: CuSO4.5H2O is an inexpensive, safe catalyst to be used in various organic transformations. It can also be recovered and reused in another reaction.
