Description

  • Application: Manganese(IV) oxide (MnO2) can be used as an oxidizing agent for the oxidation of: Allylic alcohols to α, β-ethylenic aldehydes, or ketones.[1] Propargylic alcohols to alkynic aldehydes or ketones.[1] Benzylic and heterocyclic alcohols to conjugated aromatic aldehydes or ketones.[1] Amines to aldehydes, imines, amides, and diazo compounds.[1] Methyl arenes to form primary amides in the presence of urea and oxygen.[1] MnO2 can also be used to synthesize disubstituted oxazolines from aldoximes via in situ nitrile oxide formation. Non-activated cyclic and acyclic alcohols oxidized to ketone analogs using stoichiometric MnO2 and a ruthenium catalyst.[1]
