  • Application: Iron(III) chloride (FeCl3) can be used as a catalyst: For the oxidation of glucose to gluconic acid in water.[1] To synthesize 2-iodo substituted benzo[b]thiophenes by iodocyclization of 2-alkynylthioanisoles in the presence of sodium iodide and ethanol as a solvent.[2] In the glycosylation sugars in the presence of allyl and alkynyl alcohols to synthesize corresponding glycosides.[3] To prepare 1,2-trans glycosyl azides by azido glycosylation of glycosyl β-peracetates.[4]
