Description

  • A plant glycohemoprotein, Horseradish Peroxidase's (HRP's) enzymatic activity is due to the cyclic reduction and oxidation of the iron atom in the hematin group
  • The iron-containing hemin group is covalently bound to the glycoprotein apoenzyme
  • HRP readily combines with hydrogen peroxide and the resultant complex can oxidize a wide variety of chromogenic hydrogen donors
  • It is composed of seven isozymes, all containing photohemin IX as prosthetic group
  • Specific activity: ≥60 purpurogallin units/mg Extinction coefficient: EmM = 100 (403 nm)(Lit.) Presentation: brown powder Isoelectric Point: 7.2(Lit.) Optimum pH: 7.0(Lit.) Unit definition: amount of enzyme causing the production of 1mg of purpurogallin in 20 seconds at 20°C RZ: ≥0.6 RZ Definition: The ratio of the absorbance at 403nm to the absorbance at 275nm
  • This value is an expression of the ratio of hemin to protein content.
