Description
- General description: Dimethyl phthalate (DMP) is a short-chained ester known as a phthalate acid ester. It is majorly used as a plasticizer for the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and in the coating of cellulose films.[1]
- Application: DMP can be used to plasticize cellulose acetate which can be further used in the production of laminated safety glass for flight helmets and goggles.[2] It can be used as a plasticizer that forms complexes with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and lithium salts for the development of solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) for solar cell (SC) applications.[3] It may also be used as a mixture of polymeric solvents which can be used in the preparation of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF).[4]
