• General description: The Mouse ICAM-1 (Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1) ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of mouse ICAM-1 in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and urine.

• Biochem/physiol Actions: Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) is a member of immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily. It is an inducible transmembrane glycoprotein. ICAM-1 mediates adhesion of circulating leukocytes to the endothelial membrane and blood vessel.[1][2] ICAM-1 might cause atherosclerosis and the polymorphism in ICAM-1 has reduced risk to cardiovascular diseases.[1] IL-6 induces the upregulation of ICAM-1 and leads to metastasis of osteosarcoma cells.[2] ICAM-1 causes invasion and metastasis of breast cancer cells.[3] ICAM-1 is an important receptor for rhinovirus and Haemophilus influenzae binding. Upregulation of ICAM-1 in the respiratory tract of chronic airway limitation patients increases the risk of respiratory infections.[4]
