Description

  • General description: 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydronaphthalene (Tetralin), a bicyclic hydrocarbon,[1] is a constituent of petroleum and coal tar. It is used in coal liquefaction and as an alternative to turpentine in paints and waxes.[2] Degradation of tetralin by Corynebacterium sp. strain C125,[2] and by pyrolysis have been reported.[3] A study reports the transformation of naphthalene to tetralin in the presence of activated carbon supported molybdenum carbides.[4] Dehydrogenation of tetralin by microwave heating in the presence of platinum-supported activated carbon has been investigated.[5]
  • Application: 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydronaphthalene may be used as a raw material in the synthesis of fullerenes.[6]
