Description

  • General description: Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) is a quaternary ammonium salt containing one long hydrophobic alkyl chain called amphiphile. The hydrophobic ions interact forming discrete aggregates possessing a hydrophobic core and a polar surface, called micelles in polar solution.[1]
  • Application: CTAB was used in preparing buffer solutions prepared during the determination of organic acids in port wine capillary zone electrophoresis using indirect UV detection with 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid.[3]
  • Other Notes: Additive for ion-pair chromatography[4][5]; Ion-pair reagent for TLC[6][7]
  • Legal Information: LiChropur is a trademark of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany
