Description
- General description: Chloroform is used in pharmaceutical preparations as an anesthetic and as an additive. It is now mainly used as an organic solvent.[1] Chloroform is produced by anthropogenic and natural sources. This abundant halocarbon in the atmosphere is found in ground and surface water sources.[2]
- Application: Chloroform has been used in phenol-chloroform extraction to find its ability to purify nucleic acids from blood culture fluids.[3] It has also been used in RNA extraction/isolation[2] and purification.[4]
