Description
- General description: 1,6-Anhydro-β-D-glucose (Levoglucosa), belonging to the class of anhydrosugars, is an indicator of the burning of biomass in atmospheric aerosol,[1] snow, and ice. It is formed via pyrolysis of glucans, such as cellulose and starch. Levoglucosa is also found in municipal waste and thermochemical processing products of biomass and soil.[2]
- Application: 1,6-Anhydro-β-D-glucose may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in atmospheric aerosols using gas chromatography/ion trap mass spectrometry (GC-IT-MS)[3][4] and high-performance liquid chromatography with aerosol charge detection (HPLC-ACD).[5]
