Description
- General description: Cefepime is a semi-synthetic fourth-generation cephalosporin. It is resistant to hydrolysis by common plasmid and/or chromosomally-mediated β-lactamases.[1]
- Application: Cefepime was used in antimicrobial susceptibility testing for Acinetobacter baumannii[2] and extended-spectrum-β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli[3] isolated from various samples.
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Cefepime is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin with activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins and disrupts the cell wall synthesis.[1][4]
