- General description: L-Glutamic acid/monosodium glutamate (MSG) is the sodium salt of glutamic acid.[1] It is a commonly used food additive.[1]
- Application: L-Glutamic acid monosodium salt hydrate has been used:to prepare glutamate stock solution in HEPES-buffered saline (HBS) for glutamate perfusions[2]as a component in YNG (yeast nitrogen base glutamate) medium[3]used to treat HT22 hippocampal cells to study its effects on cell viability and to examine the expression of molecules related to apoptotic cell death[4]as a component of fresh media to culture neurons and to assess glutamate uptake[5]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a food additive[1] and an environmental agent, that can affect inflammation.[6]
