- General description: Cefiderocol has been shown to be effective in preventing the emergence of resistant mutants but is not active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or colistin-resistant bacteria. This versatile compound finds applications in cell biology and biochemical research.

- Biochem/physiol Actions: Mode of Action: Cefiderocol binds to specific proteins called penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the bacterial cell wall. This binding affinity inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis and bacterial death.Antimicrobial Spectrum: Cefiderocol has strong antimicrobial properties, especially against a wide spectrum of Gram-negative pathogens.[1][2] Due to its siderophore core it is also a natural iron-chelator, which adds to its antibacterial activities.[1]
