- General description: Myristyltrimethylammonium bromide (MTAB) is a quaternary ammonium compound that consists of a long-chain alkyl group and a positively charged quaternary ammonium group. It is commonly used as a cationic surfactant and as a phase transfer catalyst in various chemical reactions.[1]
- Application: Myristyltrimethylammonium bromide can be used as a cationic surfactant to:Enhance the biomass harvesting and pigments extraction from the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.[1] Facilitate the formation of mixed micelles with amitriptyline hydrochloride.[2]It can also be used as a capping agent for platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs), which enhances their catalytic activity in the CO oxidation reaction.[3]
