Description
- General description: Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) is a polymer ethylene glycol units and is hydrophilic in nature. PEG is structurally flexible and has high hydration capacity. PEG is biocompatible and is devoid of steric hindrances in its structure.[1] PEG is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug conjugates. It is nonimmunogenic and safe.[2] PEG conjugation improves solubility and dissolution of diabetes drug, Gliclazide.[3] PEG is widely used as a reagent in biochemistry and molecular biology experiments.[4] It is used in carbon nanotube functionalization.[5]
- Application: Poly(ethylene glycol) has been used:as a component of wheat protoplast isolation and transformation buffer[6]as an additive in suspension cell culture[7]as a component of yeast transformation buffer[8]as a component of crystallization buffer in cysteine protease ATG4B crystallization[9]
