- General description: Adenine is a purine nucleobase, synthesized from inosine monophosphate(IMP). It is a nitrogenous heterocyclic aromatic compound.[1]
- Application: Adenine has been used:a component of green medium used for the derivation of keratinocytes from plucked hair follicles[2]for the serial culture of adult murine keratinocytes[3]as a media component for SSEA4+ limbal stromal stem cell differentiation[4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Adenine is a component of important biomolecules such as adenosine triphosphate (ATP), nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). NAD and FAD forms the structure of DNA and RNA, and plays important role in protein synthesis. ATP is an energy source, that is essential for cellular respiration.[1]
