- General description: Decanoic acid is a ten-carbon, saturated fatty acid.[1] It is present in palm kernel, coconut fat and in milk fat.[2]
- Application: Decanoic acid is used in the preparation of ammonium decanoate (a surfactant)[3] and for the preparation of disperse phase.[4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Decanoic acid is helpful in the attenuation of oxidative stress.[5][6] Decanoic acid in ketogenic diet is involved in mitochondrial biogenesis thereby enhancing the citrate synthase and complex I activity of electron transport chain.[6]
