Description

  • General description: Barium hydroxide crystalizes as octahydrate. At 100°C, it transforms into barium hydroxide monohydrate, which produces barium oxide and water. It serves as a precursor in the synthesis of a compound containing barium. It is also employed in the titration of weak acids. Furthermore, the hydrolysis of ester and nitriles uses barium hydroxide octahydrate as a powerful base[1]
  • Application: Barium hydroxide octahydrate is used as a catalyst for the synthesis of methyl ester from rubber seed oil[2] For thermal storage, barium hydroxide octahydrate is an important phase change material with a low melting point. It has a large heat capacity, as well as supercooling and phase separation phenomena during the cooling process[3] Additionally, barium hydroxide octahydrate was used to produce a sodium gold sulfite solution, which was later used for electroless plating of thin gold films directly onto silicon nitride thin films and into micropores[4]
