Description
- Application: L-Phenylalanine has been used as a component of cell culture media.[1] It has been used in the preparation of Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s Medium which has been utilized as a basal media to maintain primary cultures of human embryonic kidney 293T cells.[2]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: L-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid. It is significantly involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, l-DOPA (Dihydroxyphenylalanine), melanin and thyroxine. L-Phenylalanine metabolism also results in phenylethylamine, that brings about effect of a stimulant in the brain and enhances mood.[3]
