Description

  • General description: Quinine hemisulfate salt monohydrate is a naturally occurring well known fluorescent standard material. Quinine hemisulfate salt monohydrate or QSM has a fluorescence lifetime between 1.0 to 3.0 ns.[1]
  • Application: Quinine hemisulfate salt monohydrate is used for indirect photometric detection of polyamines in biological samples.[2] It is suitable for studying metabolism of bio crystalized heme, hemozoin, in malarial parasites and to study the toxicity of heme (FP)-complexes.
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Potassium channel blocker. Antimalarial, anticholinergic, antihypertensive, and hypoglycemic agent; alkaloid originally isolated from the Cinchona family of South American trees. Inhibits mitochondrial ATP-regulated potassium channel. Used to study the metabolism of biocrystalized heme, hemozoin, in malarial parasites and to study the toxicity of heme (FP)-complexes.
